Lumolabs Nikon D700, Pentax K-x, Nikon D5000

Signal to noise ratio (SNR) for the Nikon D5000, Nikon D700 and Pentax K-x. Full measurement for various luminosities and ISO settings at color temperature 2800°K. Measurement similiar to dxomark.com. The curves for Nikon D5000 and Pentax K-x at ISO 12800 are believed to be affected by noise reduction applied to sensor raw data. Pentax K-x A and K-x B correspond to two different specimen of the Pentax K-x camera which have been tested.

Signal to noise ratio of 18% gray luminosity and color temperature 2800°K (halogen tungsten). Using manufacturer ISO stops 100, [200,] 1600, 12800. The interpretation of results is the same as for the corresponding graphs on dxomark.com, using screen normalization (12 MPixels for all cameras), i.e., not the print-normalization which is for 8 megapixels. The cameras used are Nikon D5000, Nikon D700, Pentax K-x (two specimen).

20 noise sample patches. Shot with the Nikon D700, Nikon D5000, Pentax K-x and Pentax K-7 camera at almost identical lighting and manual exposure settings. The color temperature is 2800°K (tungsten) rather than 5600°K (daylight)! Developed from RAW (DNG) using Lightroom 2.4 and all parameters set to zero (this is different from the default setting!). Note that the K-7 has a slightly higher pixel count than the other 3 cameras. The ISO 100 -10EV patches are most useful to evaluate dynamic range and the ISO1600/12800 patches are more useful to evaluate low light performance. All patches are 1:1 (100%) crops shot with identical exposure parameters (ISO/s/f-stop).
